Mumbai-based design and prototyping house DC Design, in partnership with multi-brand automobile solutions hub Carnation Auto unveiled a different kind of Tata Nano at the 2010 Auto Expo in New Delhi earlier this year.
“The world’s cheapest car has thrown up a few interesting scenarios,” said Dilip Chhabria, owner of DC Design. “Firstly, we think the world’s cheapest car does have a lot of sex appeal – in fact its silhouette of one sweeping arc is quite unparalleled and lends itself to customization.”
The fully-customized Tata Nano, which Chhabria named ‘Hot Nano’ will be sold for an additional 80,000 rupees or approximately $1,750 across India. The inspiration for the Hot Nano was the youth, which he says would be the majority owners of the Tata Nano and a sporty version of the 1-lakh car would be a hit among them. Also, because the Nano is sold so cheap, even with the 80% premium, it would still be cheaper than other entry level vehicles available so what the Hot Nano is really offering is exclusivity in a budget.
The Hot Nano will have a massive front grille, blistered fenders, alloy wheels, wide tires and oversized air intakes. 50 to 100 Hot Nanos will be produced each month once the production is stabilized and will be available in the Carnation sales and service network in 40 cities starting this March.
