Register to stop seeing this ad! ![]() The Tata Nano right now being displayed at Tata Technologies’ Better Innovation event made a short stop at Judson University in Elgin, Illinois en route to Detroit in January 11. “We wanted to share with the people the story of Tata Nano and Tata Group Chief Ratan Tata’s vision for an affordable family transportation,” said Kevin Noe, Chief Marketing Officer of Tata Technologies and trustee of the University. The 200 guests at the Draewell Gallery in the Harm A. Weber Academic Center, comprised of Judson University students, representatives of the community and government officials got their first look at the champagne gold Tata Nano, which came all the way from Pune, India in a one-time two-hour preview made possible by Tata Technologies, the company that played a key role in engineering the world’s lowest price passenger car. According to early reports, the crowd responded quite well and a lot of people were interested in its US launch. People also got the chance to sit inside the car for a better look at its features and the technology put into it. Many were pleasantly surprised with the Tata Nano’s interior room, which apparently was able to accommodate a 350-pound person and a 6-foot tall man and were asking how a 10-feet long and 5-feet wide car have room for such weight and height. “It looks small on the outside but once you sit inside you go, wow. You sit up high in the seats, you have good visibility out the front of the car. So even though it is very small, you can see what is going on around you,” he said. There were also questions regarding safety and emissions to which Noe responded that it would have to meet the country’s safety and emissions standards before it can go on sale in America. Upon conclusion of the 2-hour event, the Tata Nano LX with license plate MH04 ED 7015 traveled to the Detroit Science Center where it will be on display until January 24.
