Register to stop seeing this ad! ![]() Tata Motors’ Nano car made headlines all over the world because of its astounding affordability. Commonly referred to as the world’s cheapest car, the Nano was named as such due to its small size, low price and high technology. It is a compact car with enough space for four people to comfortably sit that’s built using thirty-six patented technologies and starts at a measly Rs 123,000, which costs roughly US$2,700. If that doesn’t get your attention, I don’t know what will. The Tata Nano is a 5-passenger car powered by a 2-cylinder petrol engine with multi-point fuel injection made by Bosch and can make up to 35 horsepower and 35 foot-pounds of torque. What’s great about it is its amazing fuel efficiency allowing 50/70 mpg city/highway. With today’s fuel prices, more and more people are looking to save on fuel and the Tata Nano definitely fits the bill. In addition, the Tata Nano meets Bharat III safety standards, comparable to Euro III emission standards making it very environment-friendly. While a lot of people worry about passenger safety in such a small vehicle, Tata Motors ensures that the Tata Nano exceeds current safety performance regulatory requirements with features including crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages and rear tailgate glass bonded to the body and an all sheet-metal body. It comes in three trim levels: Basic, Deluxe (CX) and Luxury (LX) with features including air-conditioning and heating and front power windows as options. The Tata Nano was designed with a high ground clearance so that it can easily pass through rough roads without issues. Along with its size, it also has an impressively tight turning radius of just 13 feet allowing it to maneuver through narrow areas and squeeze into and out of parking spaces. Even in developing countries such as ours, the Tata Motors Nano is much awaited if only for its great price and fuel economy. Nevertheless, it will still be a long wait for the Tata Nano enthusiasts out here since modifications must still be made especially in terms of safety and crash performance. It’s obvious the Nano is not for everyone though since its style is leaning towards “cute”. Meanwhile, what do you think of the Tata Nano? Do you think you would consider buying one? |
